Support

We provide a variety of services to support both Hepatitis C Victoria members and people in the general community affected by hepatitis C.

HCV facilitates a regular monthly support group for people living with hepatitis C and provides support for facilitators of other groups, both metropolitan and rural.

Support groups - more than just a cuppa!

Finding out more, learning about your options, dealing with the issues that impact on you. All these things can be discussed in the safe environment of a support group.

Brunswick Drop-In and Information Sessions

Feel like a chat? Then drop in to one of our monthly support group meetings. Enjoy the company of others while sharing information and experiences in a relaxed and safe space. The group runs for two hours on the second sunday of each month between 2pm and 4pm. No bookings are necessary and light refreshments are provided. For more information call the Hep C Infoline 1800 703 003.

Rural Support Groups

At this time there are two support groups operating in country Victoria, being Warrnambool and Healesville in the Yarra Valley. This changes from time to time so for more information contact the Hep C Infoline on 1800 703 003.

Internet Support Group

The NSW Hepatitis C Council hosts an internet based community forum. Anyone from around Australia is welcome to participate. Go to http://hepcaustralasia.org

Up to date information, advice and a supportive ‘ear’ on issues such as transmission, disclosure, health management, treatment, testing, and so on, is provided confidentially over the telephone, via mail or email, or people are welcome to drop in and have a chat with a staff member. Information packs on hepatitis C are also regularly posted out to individuals and organisations all over Victoria who have particular concerns about hepatitis C or simply wish to learn more about the virus.

Other community organisations are supported in dealing effectively with issues around hepatitis C through secondary consultation and the provision of education and training.

Our quarterly publications, Good Liver, Liver Spot (email) and Viral Low Down (email) and our weekly radio program, Hepchat, help members stay in touch with new information and research in the field, specialist health care services, upcoming events and other issues likely to affect Hepatitis C Victoria and its members.

To receive the email versions of Liver Spot, Viral Low Down and Good Liver please contact Halo Jones at info@hepcvic.org.au
